🎓 Learning (Quick Notes)

Read these first. Then do the test. The practice test covers the exact topics you listed.

Section A: Comprehension

  • Read the passage twice.
  • Underline names, places, dates, and key words.
  • Answer using evidence from the text (not guessing).
Example:
If the question says “Why…?”, you must give a reason from the passage.

Section B: Visual literacy

  • Look for: title/headline, main message, target audience.
  • Notice colours, size, bold words, emojis, and layout (they show importance).
  • Think: “What does this want me to do / feel?”
Example:
A big “BUY 1 GET 1 FREE” means the purpose is to persuade people to buy something.

Section C: Language structures & conventions

  • Nounsnames of people/places/things (girl, Wellington, book).
  • Pronounsreplace nouns (she, he, they, we).
  • Synonymssame meaning (big = large).
  • Antonymsopposite meaning (hot ≠ cold).
  • Subject–verb agreementsingular subject → singular verb (He runs).
  • Simple presenthabits/always (I play).
  • Simple pastyesterday/finished (I played).
  • Simple futuretomorrow/plan (I will play).
Quick rules:
Singular: he/she/it → often adds -s (She walks).
Plural: they/we/you → no -s (They walk).
Future: use will (I will go).
